I need to temporarily discontinue offering personal support for my WordPress plugins. I sincerely apologize for this. I’m putting in time nights and weekend at my job – that and my family have to come first. I don’t expect my situation at work to be like this for more than a few more months. In the meantime, please use the comments thread on this post if you have questions, and I’m hoping you can support each other (there are at least a few savvy users of my plugins who have posted helpful comments in the past). I will try to jump in if I can to offer help, but I can’t promise it right now.

Congrats on this great plugin called Shashin!!! Quick question… is there any way to select an album and add a filter for the wanted filename. Somthing like *[filter]*.*. Regex or something.

FYI, while you were away: Picasaweb now uses a different video player (different from what used to be shown in Picasaweb, a.k.a. the Google Video player –> the one which seems to *continue* to be shown in the Highslide viewer via the Saishin plugin.)

FYI,
Google seems to have dropped/changed the size limits for photos.
I updated my local shashin.php for larger size and they all work without a problem (tested with Highslide and Lightbox 2)
I changed this line:
define(‘SHASHIN_IMAGE_SIZES’, serialize(array(32, 48, 64, 72, 144, 160, 200, 288, 320, 400, 512, 576, 640, 720, 800,1024,1280)));
I added the 1024 and 1280 myself. These depend on the size you upload to Picasa web albums of course.

The Simple:Press forum plugin apparently prevents Shashin from calling the highslide script in the header (I see its call in the footer instead), but the Shashin highslide settings code is still in the header and and I think that’s what blows things up.
The first error the forum page throws is “hs is not defined”, then the rest of my scripts blow up (it doesn’t recognize the first function on my main.js, which cufons the fonts in the main nav menu).
Anybody got any ideas?

is it possible to set a maximum limit for thumbnails in a post? For example, if I have many photos in one album, the post showing all the thumbnails will be very long and you have to scroll often. It would be better to show e.g. only 40 thumbnails and a link saying “…more thumbnails” which would show the next 40 thumbnails.

Hi Zale, when u click on the insert Button to Insert Photos you can choose the maxium limit oft thumbnails.
Now get to my problems 😀 Can anyone tell me how to set Shashin to view Photos with Fancybox ? Iive wrote Fancebox in the Field at the Settings Sections but no happens.

Where can I choose the maximum limit of thumbnails? I only see the limitation for columns, not for number of thumbnails…
I’m using fancybox, I have entered ‘fancybox’ in the field ‘Link rel for images’ AND ‘Class for links’ on the settings screen of shashin. And it works 🙂

What an amazing plugin, I installed it on a client website (a band site) and am wondering if anyone knows how to redirect the default gallery page.
In other words, after clicking an album the photos are displayed in a gallery page that uses the wordpress single.php file for display. I need to place gallery only information in the sidebar which requires a custom php file but I’m not sure where in Shashin change this.

The plugin show only my three picasa private albums. When i try to add other private albums it sees only the first three. Please help.
Shashin in my opinion would be the best picasa plugin if it could all show and could add all private albums.If not i have to find the alternative.
pwa+php is also a good plugin but requires pro version to be fully function to my liking.
any other alternatives or am thinking of nextgen gallery.
thanks for the plugin. i had one problem setting it to work. I was getting the unable to insert photo sql error. It turns out that my camera model was longer than 20 characters which causes the sql query to fail. possible update the column to 30 characters in the next release? thanks.
I hope someone will be able to help me as I have a slight problem in getting highslide to work. I am using a WP3.0 with child theme and page template.
Shashin is working great. I’m using the [sthumbs] tag, however, when I click on the thumbnail, highslide is not working.

Mike, great plugin and I have integrated a test page into my site on climbing the mountains and volcanoes of Indonesia. I have a question that I hope is easy to answer. On the following page I have added 4 thumbnails of a volcano in Indonesia using salbumphotos. The Picasa album contains 22 photos, but if a user clicks on one of the 4 thumnails, the highslide show only shows those 4 photos. Is there a way to show 4 thumbs, but if a user clicks on a photos, a slidehow for the entire album is started?

I don’t have any problem at all displaying my public albums using shashin, but as soon as I put the link (very long link with auth key) to my unlisted albums in the tools with correct picasa account information (id/pw) in the settings, the error message (ShashinAlbum::setUserAlbums – Failed to parse album feed) appears with no success adding the albums. curl is enabled in the server, so it’s not a problem.
I wonder if my problem is just a type of problem you mentioned that could take long time to fix.
Love Shashin- it’s so flexible and relatively easy to understand. One question- is it possible to adjust the font to match my site’s font style and size?
I had to dig to find this comment forum…I am sure there are many out there who can pick up the slack a bit while you attend to work and family, Mike. It’d be good to get the comments more visible on the Shashin page (to help you out as well as us!).

our issue is that it works okay on the specific post but the syntax is showing on the homepage excerpt.
for example:

We love shashin. etc.

Hi, I use your fantastic plugin for one of my websites (which is a German Scrum site 😉 ). It works great and your code is easy to read 🙂
But I have one problem: Authentication with a user name and a password doesn’t work correctly. On my Picasa account I have 26 albums and some of them are just by key and some are even completely private. When I try to fetch all albums by your plugin, I only get the public albums. I debugged your code and I see that I get an AuthKey and it is used to fetch the RSS but it doesn’t contain my private/unlisted albums. (Fetching the RSS in the browser with my session ID works :/)

Fantastic plugin!
I’ve just noticed a bit of strange behavior. Whenever I list posts according to category or view the RSS feed, image thumbnails don’t properly appear. Instead, just the image filename is printed along with metadata like this:

(Note that I’ve edited how the metadata is displayed; I haven’t edited any other source code.) I used to think this was just theme-related since both the “WordPress Classic 1.5” and “WordPress Default 1.6” themes work correctly. However, the new wordpress.org-issued “Twenty Ten 1.1” theme doesn’t work either.
Investigating further, I find that the incompatible themes display posts like this:

I’m having the same problem as Paul. It is just showing the tag “[salbumthumbs=title,max,n,n,center,]” and not the albums. Why is this and does anyone know how to fix it?

First I have to thank for the great Shashin Plugin.
It’s working fine, but there is one point I would like to figure out. I’m running Shashin with the Wordpres plugin of Lightbox 2. If I click on a picture it would be nice, to name as well the captions saved in the Picasa pictures. For both, pictures and photo albums. Any ideas, how I can integrate this in Shashin?

You need to specify the max value in your tag or it won’t display properly:
[salbumthumbs=title,max,n,n,center,] should be [salbumthumbs=title,6,n,n,center,] (max 6 or whatever you like).

Is there a way to alter the settings so that on a page displaying thumbnails of a whole album, the URL is neat eg. “abc.com/photos/album1.html” rather than the current “www.abc.com/photos?shashin_album_key=2” ?
I’ve already got my site configured for neat permalinks via the WordPress settings.

I’m having the same issue as John.
The Shushin plugin is working well with standard permalinks, but if I activate individual permalinks in WordPress, it’s not. The gallery thumbnails are showing on the Shashin page, but after clicking on a album, the page is just refreshing, and the pictures are not displayed.

This is the best plugin for WP so far! It’s amazingly easy to implement, even for a n00b as myself.
Now I have been reading through the documentation and comments, but can’t find the answer to my question. I know that Mike has stopped temporarily with support, but maybe someone else can help me.
When you limit the number of pictures per page, there is a ‘previous, next’ link created. These links are only created at the top of the page, but would be very nice to have it on the bottom as well. I guess it’s just a matter of linking the function on the bottom of the page again, but I don’t know what or where to place it.

Well it was working perfectly fine until today, I “added all albums and it seemed to work but said zero photos in my latest album”
Now when I add all albums I still get “albums added”
but my photo count in the latest album is zero.. and it wont add them.
I have 65 albums
if I refresh the album in question I get –
ShashinAlbum::setAlbum – Failed to parse album feed.
Other albums get –
ShashinAlbum::setAlbum – Failed to insert/update database record for album. SQL Error:
And some just refresh normally… with no errors…

Hi Tobias – it looks like your permalinks use only the postname. Did you choose this on the permalink settings page as a “custom structure” or are you using a plugin to manage your permalinks? If you are using a plugin, which one?
I customized the permalink structure on the WordPress settings page, as you said. The permalink custom structure has been changed to: /%postname%/
To keep all the existing links from the former standard links structure I installed the migration plugin:

Tobias – I just took a look at the code for the migration plugin. It might be causing the problem. Could you try turning it off temporarily, and then see if the links work on the album thumbnails? In some cases it looks like the migration plugin is throwing away everything after the ? in the url.
It stopped working completely randomly.. it worked before I tried to add all albums again….
If I uninstall and reinstall will I lose all photos from my posts etc or will it be fine if the tags are still in the posts?

Hi Paul – sorry, the link I gave you referred to a slightly older version of Shashin. Please try those instructions again, but the correct line number is 441 in ToppaWPFunctions.php
Uninstalling will delete the shashin tables, which will permanently break the shashin tags, so I don’t recommend that.
Also, it looks like your albums are private, which can make things more complicated. Did you enter your picasa email and password on the Shashin settings page?

I am using a WP3.0 with child theme and page template.
Shashin appears to be working when using the [sthumbs] tag, however, when I click on the thumbnail, the larger version is not appearing, and I get the Loading… message in the thumbnail, which I can click on and nothing happens.

Hi Keith – your theme has some problems:
1. The header.php file needs to have <?php wp_head(); ?> added to it. This is what will load the javascript that Shashin needs.
2. Your html has no head tag or body tag!
3. It has other markup problems as well. Run it through the validator at http://validator.w3.org/ for details.

And let me know what kind of output you get when you try to sync it album. You should get either some kind of an error message (if it fails) or a whole bunch of album data (if it succeeds).
AHHH…Thanks Mike! I was mucking around with Page Templates & missed out calling get_header() and body_class()… that is why my html was generated with no head tag or body tag. I’ve managed to fix this. Shashin is now working!
If you don’t mind, how do I get another jQuery Image/Gallery Viewer plugin called YoxView (http://www.yoxigen.com/yoxview/) to work with Shashin? Any tips will be appreciated.
Sorry for the delay, made a typo and the whole site went down… anyway i added the code, clicked refresh on an album and this is what i got –

I also just tried clicking refresh again on the album in question which shows 0 photos and got

I since removed the code, clicked sync on one of my albums – it worked no problem
Clicked again on the troublesome album showing zero photos and got
ShashinAlbum::setAlbum – Failed to parse album feed.

Hi Paul – are the albums that are syncing successfully public albums, and are the ones that are failing private? And did you enter the email and password you use with Picasa on the Shashin settings page?
All my albums have the same properties – i.e. anyone with the link
I entered my email and pass yes thats how it fetched the other albums.
I am currently trying to delete the problem album and reupload with a different name to see if that helps…
Well, that actually worked!
I still have the problem album listed in shashin, even though it was deleted….
The only possibilites I can think of are
A: it tried to sync or I tried to add albums while it was in the middle of uploading (im pretty sure I didnt do this)
B: I did one thing different to my ususal process – I added a caption.
Neither seem likely to me… but if you have any ideas… 🙂
P.S. Any idea how I can get rid of this ghost album? I dont fancy messing with the databse…

OK, I deactivated the permalink plugin.
But I’m still having the same problem at http://tobias-hagemeister.de/foto-album/.
Maybe I need to specify a more detailed custom permalink strcuture. If I define the old permalink structure all is fine,like: http://tobias-hagemeister.de/?p=123
For the moment, I included the Picasa Link to the homepage.
I will check later, if I can find a solution
Hi Paul – it sounds like the record for that album may have been corrupted somehow. I can’t tell without an autopsy on the database 😉
To delete it, did you try the delete button in the album list? (on the Shashin tools page)
Hi Tobias – as far as I know, it should work with the permalink structure you have. Just observing your site externally, I can’t tell why it’s not. It looks like you’re loading at least a dozen javascript files for various purposes – my guess is that there’s a conflict in there somewhere.

ShashinAlbum::deleteAlbum – Album object not correctly set.
This looks like a great plugin that I would love to try. However, on going to your photos page, when I click on an album and then click the arrows to view the next image, the image is gone and only the alt text shows up. But when I individually click each image, it seems to work. The images you posted in your blog posts seem to work with the arrows, but not the albums on your Photos page. Is there some compatibility issue with WordPress?
Also, I was trying to get this plugin to work with multisite, but it does not seem to work? Is this only workable with the normal WordPress install? Thanks.

Jenda – yes, I’ve started a complete overhaul of Shashin. I can’t estimate a completion date yet though – I fit in the work when I find time
Paul – it sounds like the data did get corrupted somehow. You’d have to do some direct SQL queries to remove it. I can advise you on how if you want (if so, let me know if you have phpMyAdmin or something similar)
Yinga – I have never seen the problem you describe (clicking on the arrows when browsing album photos). Can you tell me which web browser you are using, and it’s version? Shashin does not work with multi-site WP installations currently. I plan to address that in the next version

Kenneth – can you give me a link to a page on your site that has this problem? (or if you’re seeing the problem on my site, let me know which album). In Chrome 8 I am seeing a problem with videos when using Highslide’s back and forward arrows to navigate an album, but I’m not seeing the general problem you and Yinga are describing.
How can I update to show my most recent albums? I have 24 albums showing in Shashin, but 28 albums on Picsasa. None of my recent ones are showing and I can’t figure out how to add the other ones. I get no error messages anywhere.
Hi Eric – if you put in your picasa URL with your username under “add albums” – http://picasaweb.google.com/username – it will pick up the new albums. It doesn’t pick them up automatically when you sync, as not everyone wants all their Picasa albums in Shashin.
